The holidays are all about family, friends, festivities and food. It’s those last two you have to be concerned about: Too much partying and too many holiday treats can cause weight gain.
That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun – you just have to be a little more mindful. Here are three tips to help you tip the scale in your favor:
- Don’t eat everything on your plate. It’s easy to go back for seconds and thirds at a holiday party, but odds are that one plate – or even half a plate – of food is enough to fill you up. Eat slowly and take notice of when your body says enough is enough. At that point, it’s time to stop eating. You can always save some treats for another meal or snack.
- Sneak in a workout whenever you can. Working out doesn’t necessarily mean a trip to the gym. If time is tight, consider working out at home or incorporating physical activity throughout your daily routine. Even a brisk walk during lunch can help you burn some calories.
- Drink wisely. To limit calories, stick to wine or lighter beers if you plan on drinking. Alcohol can dehydrate you, so make sure you’re staying hydrated by drinking enough water. Drinking a lot of water can also help you feel full, which in turn can keep you from overeating.
