Making a doctor’s appointment isn’t exactly at the top of many people’s to-do list, but it should be one of the top priorities: Annual Wellness Visits are a crucial part of one’s overall health, as they provide you and your doctor with important information.
Here are just a few of the many reasons you should schedule one:
- It can help catch health problems early on. During your Annual Wellness Visit, your doctor will review any changes in your health since your last visit. This will most likely involve a physical exam and basic screenings like blood pressure and respiration. If there is cause for concern, your Provider will recommend the appropriate testing to get to the bottom of your health issues.
- It helps keep your records current. Have you been seeing specialists or other doctors since your last visit? Your Providers should all be aware of each other to avoid gaps and conflicts in care. An Annual Wellness Visit gives you the opportunity to inform your primary physician about your care team, so they have the most up-to-date information for their records.
- It provides you with a health care plan. Unlike a regular checkup, an Annual Wellness Visit is more about planning and prevention. Together with your doctor, you’ll develop a plan that helps you maintain optimal health as well as prevent health problems you may be at risk for.
Once you’ve scheduled this important visit, you have some work to do. Be sure to round up some documents and information to ensure a smooth appointment, including medical records, family health history and medication lists as well as any other information your doctor should know.
