4 Healthy Snacks for Kids

By: AvMed Health Tips AvMed Health Smarts, Nutrition, Pediatrics

Healthy food and kids often don’t mix. Your kids would probably prefer a pizza over a bowl of vegetables. Fear not, though: There are tasty and healthy foods that can help give their diets a nutritious makeover:

  1. Air-popped popcorn: Regular popcorn can contain excessive amounts of butter and oil. Instead, opt for the air-popped kind that can be seasoned to one’s liking.
  2. Yogurt with berries: Replace sugary yogurts with plain yogurt. Your kids can top it with berries as they please, thus letting them control the calories and sugar.
  3. Nuts: Almonds, peanuts, pistachios … the list goes on. The vast variety of nuts helps break up the diet monotony. If your child is allergic, carrot sticks are another option that can provide a similarly satisfying crunch.
  4. Water: That’s not a typo. Odds are your children aren’t drinking enough water, and what they mistake for hunger can actually be thirst. Send them to school with a refillable water bottle.
